Bidding Differently

i have never done any auctions before. my brother-in-law is into online auctions so when i told him about this unique one, he can't believe that there's such a thing. i was surprised as well when i found out but hey, their mechanics made it more fun and exciting and it's different! what more could you ask for? what auction am i talking about? it's the bid4prizes.com one.

how it works, you bid on an item and in order to win, your amount should be the lowest and no other one should have bidded the same amount. if you don't win through that, you still have other chances:
Cash prize, Sweepstake and Free gifts.

aint that fun? i think i might bid on that iphone or on an HDTV.

Travel Time

my husband's uncle is thinking of treating the whole family, not just ours, but the whole clan, to a trip to either the US or europe next year. he said he wants to spend time with everyone, all together in one place at one given time. nice ey? our assignment is to come up with an itinerary that's good for the old and young ones alike. the best one, which means the most feasible one, gets to have a free trip to either singapore or hong kong. is that a good deal or what??!!

good thing my sister recommended booking
Hotel Reservations with HotelReservations.com. prices are reasonable, they offer not just flights and accomodations but also car hire and suggests which accomodation is near a specific tourist spot. this is really making my research easy!
im taking consensus first on who wants to go to the states and who wants to go to europe. it seems that the younger ones want to go to the US and the adults, europe. i could understand why but that would be a problem! we have to all go together. unless... uncle would agree to perhaps spending a few weeks in the US and a few weeks in europe as a compromise *lol*
anyways, with the low prices im getting from hotelreservations.com, im a bit confident that uncle would give in. we are really happy that he's thought of this. not because it's a freebie but the idea is really nice. we seldom get together as most people are working and are all living busy lives.
i might suggest this to my own family. imagine, we are scattered in 4 countries! we have to get together some time. airfares and accomodations are now affordable, im sure they'll find this a brilliant idea!
do you think i ought to plan that hong kong or singapore trip as well? =)

my little boy has been asking me over and over again to bake him some cupcakes. no, not buy, but bake! i barely made an edible adobo the previous time and he's asking me to bake? *lol*. i don't know how or when he decided he wants them. probably i'll just buy one and pretend i baked it?

i was looking at
this site and it's pretty interesting. her cupcakes look delicious!

Loan

here in the philippines, salaries are barely making ends meet. as the petrol price increases, so does all commodities. but the salaries? they still stay the same and it would take a few rallies to get the government officials to notice that the people are having extreme difficulties providing for their families.

because of this, most people
Loan money to get by. and im sure, most of them have Loans that they couldn't afford to pay now which means, getting deeper and deeper into debt.

i am fortunate enough that both me and my husband have full time jobs that we don't need to apply for
Personal Loans. we have just one kid and we're still able to give him what he needs without any help from our parents (although they give voluntarily =D).

but i know people who have applied for a
Personal Loan and if you ask somebody, they always know somebody who has. and then i heard of this Payday Loan from a colleague and she said that it's really helpful since most of the time, our salaries barely last long enough till the next pay day. and to think, here in the philippines, we are paid twice a month! i got intrigued and did some surfing and found out about this site that offers online loan service. talk about fast approval of application. so that's how some people get by!

i hope the condition of living changes here in the philippines. i don't wonder any more why more and more people are opting to go abroad.

Sell Online

Monday, 24 September 2007

my mom was telling about the many stuff that my aunt has that she's not using anymore. some of them haven't been used yet! she's got different things, from make up, to clothes, to household stuff. i told her to suggest to my aunt of selling them at ebay.

then my sister also told me that she has a lot of stuff she want to dispose of at home that needs a new home. that made me thinking. it might be a good way to earn money. but selling on ebay, you get charged for using ebay and also there are paypal fees.

my brother-in-law said, why not start your online shop? that's a thought! i searched and i found a
ashopcommerce.com that sells Shopping cart software. the price is very low, competitive and they even have 10 days trial period! the shopping cart is 100% search engine optimized so you can be sure your page will have page ranking so people will be able to find you easily. everything's web based, they have technical support, very easy to use. you can even customise it to your liking.
i hope i can convince them for us to have our online shop. they will not only get rid of those unwanted stuff, they'll be able to earn money from them as well! nice deal, huh? =)

1 or More?

Sunday, 23 September 2007

hubby and i have agreed that we won't have another kid until our son is a bit older, probably when he's 5 or 6 years old. life's not easy nowadays, everything is expensive and we want to provide the best for our kids. right now, we're both working full time and as it is, our son is left in the care of his nanny or his paternal grandma. i only see him a few hours at night, and i only get to see him the whole of sunday as i work half day during saturdays. tough, huh? we take solace on the fact that we're trying to give our son a good future.

but on the other hand, is it really a good idea? having siblings will make him sociable and learn to value relationships more. i have 4 siblings myself, my husband 1. and it's always nice to have someone to talk to, share ideas with. sometimes, having friends is not enough. family is more important. when my hubby and i are older, if we die (touch wood), my son will be left alone. i know i've got my own family and hubby's family to look after him. but they have lives of their own. it's still different if there are more of you to look after each other.

well, im not ending this blog in a negative way. we still want a few more kids. but not now. soon, probably =).
whatever. come what may.. que sera sera.. as we always say.

Saturday, 22 September 2007

i am really happy my sister 'forced' me to blog for money. at first i was hesitant because i work full time, i've got a toddler that needs constant attention and a husband to look after as well. i barely have time for myself. i thought it's just a waste of my time. but my sister said it will only take a few minutes everyday. not just for the money, i realized that blogging is now serving as my outlet for my frustrations, raves, excitements... even though i seldom have the time to do all these things.

my sister was also the one who introduced me to
smorty.com. i applied yesterday and got my approval today! that's pretty quick, huh? also, their lowest rate is still higher than what other paid blogging sites offer.

i see lots of people doing
blog advertising and i can't blame them. with salaries barely covering everyday expenses, anything extra helps. so, what are you waiting for? join us now! Get paid to blog.

Skip Breakfast?

Friday, 21 September 2007

i try hard to eat breakfast. i would grab a toast and hot chocolate or coffee before heading off to work. or if me and my husband still have time, we would eat porridge or whatever the cook prepared that morning. but it's getting busier and busier everyday that i end up having breakfast at work, before doing store visits. i know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day but life's just been crazy lately that even that, i don't have time for.

anyways, i still try my best to have breakfast. but my sister, you'll never really force her to if she doesn't want. she always feel bloated. i wonder how she keeps up with her busy schedule as well. me, im sure im gonna collapse if i don't drink coffee or hot chocolate at least.

so, how many of you have breakfast each day?

Auto Insurance - A Must!

here in the philippines, people with cars are not that concerned about insurances. they go about their everyday lives without bothering much about them. they will just worry about it when something actually happened already. as they say, regret is always in the end: i wish i got this and that... i wish we thought of this before... blah blah blah.

in some countries, it's a must. like in england, where my sister resides. she said they are required by law to have insurances. anyways, it's for their own protection. although others believe that it's just a waste of money. but i believe that it's important and that you never know when they'll come handy.

because of that, the cars here at home are all insured. based on our family experiences: my sister's car was bumped by a truck in the uk and my dad's car was carnapped a few months back, it is really essential to have this "back-up". i found this site that offers competitive
Auto Insurance Plans. they provide quotes from multiple providers so you can be sure that you can get the lowest quotes.

if you're not an experienced driver or if you drive funky sports car, it might be a lot more expensive. but
advantageauto quotes.com will be able to help you find competitive Poor Driver Auto Insurance Rates and cheap Coverage For Sports Car respectively.
you may be a careful driver but there are lots of careless ones out there. better safe than sorry, right?

Cooking Newbie

Tuesday, 18 September 2007

i have never cooked in my entire life. so when i was able to cook a very edible adobo last weekend, i was ecstatic! my son liked it (maasim!, he said hehe). here's where i got my recipe:

The Philippines is south of China, North of Indonesia, and no where near Latin America. Thus, you may be wondering why I have a Filipino dish on my Latino page.
In 1521 Fedinand Magellan reached the island of Samar and claimed the entire archipelago for Spain. 44 years later when Philip II became king of Spain colonial rule was established that lasted about three centuries. Following the Spanish American War the United States got control of the Philippines in the Treaty of Paris of 1898. By the End of WWW II, the Philippines became independent. Spanish and Asian influences can both be found in their cooking styles. In addition, I just happen to like Filipino cooking and the following is one of my favorite dishes.

1 cup white or cider vinegar
1 cup water
2 tablespoons peeled and crushed garlic
1 teaspoon salt
3 bay leaves
1 teaspoon black pepper
3 pounds of chicken (large pieces or hacked small)
2 ½ pounds pork butt cut into 1 ½ inch cubes
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons peanut oil (optional)
¼ cup of red wine (optional)
hot sauce or dried hot peppers (optional)
1/2 cup to 1 full cup of brown sugar (optional)

Variation: Some Latin countries have an almost identical recipe, except they add the optional ingredients: red wine, hot sauce, and brown sugar. These are not traditional additions in the Philippines.

You can use either your favorite chicken pieces (thighs and legs are frequently used) or "hack" one whole chicken. Hacking refers to cutting a whole chicken into small pieces with the bone still in. Leaving the bone in the pieces helps to retain moisture and shape. You do not want to make this dish with boneless chicken.

In a large pot bring to a boil the vinegar, water, garlic, salt, bay leaves, hot pepper, and black pepper. Add the cut up meat cover with the brown sugar and once again bring to a boil. Lower the heat and simmer covered for 30 minutes. Add the soy sauce and the wine and cook an additional 10 minutes.

Remove the meat and continue cooking the sauce until it is reduced by half.

Optional: While the sauce continues to cook, you may want to brown the chicken and pork pieces in a hot skillet with the peanut oil. If you used large chicken pieces (ie leg quarters) skip this step.

Serve the meat and the sauce over white rice.

YUM!!!

PPP Rocks

i thank my sister for urging me to create my own blog. at first i was hesitant as i know i don't have the luxury of time to write stuff. i have a small family to take care of and with work taking most of my time already, i don't want some thing else to get in the way of my family time.

but my sister was persistent. she's a postie and was telling me about all the benefits of being a postie. and when i learned that this is a simple way to
make money, i took the plunge! it is very simple indeed. just a few minutes everyday, will earn you as much as 10-15$. i know it's not big compared to those 'seasoned bloggers' but for me, a beginner, it's a big help, especially when you already convert it to pesos (1$ = 46pesos). as we all know, every little helps.

what to do with the extra dosh? i would buy stuff for my little boy. or probably, set the money aside for holidays with my family so we can have some quality time together. if we can do it once a month, or every other month, it might make up for the time i don't spend with them. that's a good idea, don't you think?

thanks PPP for the opporunities. keep them coming!

Juggling

Friday, 14 September 2007

i am trying to set my priorities. it used to be work, family, self. work was first since i tell myself that i need to work to help my husband provide the best things to our son. but that shouldn't be. family should always be first. i want our son to grow up well-mannered, intelligent, god-fearing and not a brat that gets whatever he wants just because we're trying to make up for the lost time we should have spent with him.

anyhoo, i found this from: about.com

Juggling School, Work, and Activities Can Be A Challenge

If your nightly refrain is how tired you and the kids are, perhaps your family is struggling with how to balance work, school, and activities. Here are some quick tips for juggling the various schedules and spend some quality time together:

1. Create a family night. The solution is simple and can create memories to last a lifetime. Whether it's movie night, take-out night (think pizza or Chinese, for example), game night, or a family walk night, the key is that a night each week is designated for together time. Relax...and talk with each other! You might be surprised the things you learn from your kids on your special night.

2. Enjoy and interact with your child's friends. Yes, really! Letting kids "hang out" at your place gives you valuable insight into what interests and motivates your own child as well as understanding the "crowd" he or she is associating with.

For younger kids, an hour or two with a friend can teach sharing, responsibility, taking turns, and other traits through actual learning and experiences. And don't forget that many child experts indicate that free time for play and social interaction can be better for a child's development than too many organized or structured activities.

3. Let your child choose his/her interests, and not you. Too many well-meaning parents sign their kids up for activities they're truly not at all interested in or good at, then face conflicts and power struggles as a result. It's another issue all-together if your child constantly begs to sign up for activities and then wants to quit, but kids at even a young age develop certain interests and dreams that they want to pursue. And, they most likely won't be the same dreams you had either! Be careful to choose your battles and accommodate activity requests where practical.

4. Consider the commitment when making decisions. More and more activities are emphasizing additional practices and time requirements in today's competitive world. You as the parent have to decide if a particular activity is appropriate for your child. Options for time-pressed families is to sign kids up for a recreation league vs. a select season; for pee wee-cheerleading instead of a year-round squad, for example

5. Determine your child's commitment as well. If your kid says an activity "might" be fun, avoid committing to a full season or year. Not only could it present a problem for your child if he/she doesn't like it, but will infringe on the other players/members participating in the activity. Many teams rely on a certain number of players or kids to form a group, and a last-minute pull-out could cause an impact on everyone else. If you're not sure, consider signing your child up for a mini-camp or week-long or short session instead. If your kid loves it, then you can always seek something more in the future.

6. Assign family responsibilities. If everyone in the family is participating in some type of activity, then general household chores may be harder to get accomplished due to lack of time. Have a family meeting and explain that in order to do these enrichment activities/sports/music, everyone will have to pitch in to make sure the clothes still get washes, dishes done, and table cleared. If you set expectations up front, any grumbling will be minimized. Even small kids can help set the table, clear dishes, or take out the trash cans to the curb.

7. Watch for signs of being overextended and adjust schedules as needed. If your kid's grades starting plummeting or you get a note that says Emma often falls asleep after mid-morning snack, you may be asking too much of them. Keep in mind a child's age, personality, and true interest in making decisions.

8. Encourage the "all for one and one for all" concept. A family who plays together, stays together is the message and encourage your kids to support each other's activities and endeavors.

9. Above all, keep family first! Keeping your priorities straight will ensure a happier, better-adjusted family.

anyhoo, i've only got one child now and it's proving to be a handful. so as early as now, i should set my priorities straight so if in the future we have anymore kids, i'll be able to divide my time equally.

Weekend Getaway

my job dictates i work from mondays to saturdays. i barely have time for my family since i leave the house very early and i get home around 9pm each day. i really want to spend more time with my family. it's either i work part time, or i stop working altogether. but right now, i have got no choice but to work, in order to provide the best for our son.

anyways, me and hubby are hoping we could have some family time, away from the stress of work. we're looking at weekend breaks at least. we can't really be away from work for too long so our options are either city breaks or any of those short breaks abroad. so we're now down to the 3 options:
hong kong

singapore

thailand

my sister has been to both thailand and hong kong so we're leaning towards either of them. but which one do you think would be cheaper? we have now filed our annual leaves for the end of october. we have to book something now or else we would be stuck here at home!!!

anyways, we're still hoping to visit
paris or rome or vienna in the NEAR future and with cheap flights about, the idea is not far flung. but for now, asia would do. weekend breaks or not, we have to do it this october, otherwise we won't do it!

i can't wait for us to go away, spend quality time together, specially with out little boy, whom i have neglected for some time now. i hope he realizes that this is just a small sacrifice we're making so he could have the best things in life.

i think im all kikay that i pursued a career in advertising majoring in fashion. but seriously, when i was younger, you wouldn't believe i'll be this girly. you would have thought i'll be in engineering or something. =D

Booking

i was talking to my mom yesterday. she's in the US with my sister and brother in law. they are staying with my aunt in new jersey. she was telling me that they have been touring new york and all. they'll be staying there for another week and she was saying she's not looking forward to going home just yet.

they will go to washington this weekend. they'll be staying there over night and she said they haven't booked their accomodations yet. since my sister does not have time to search online for the best deals as they are so tired already when they go home at night, i volunteered to do the searching for them.

im aware that last minute
Hotel Reservations cost an arm and a leg so i wasn't really optimistic that they would get really good deals. but i was surprised when i saw that the prices at hotelreservations.com is quite competitive and though last minute, it still is cheap compared to other sites. what's good about their site is that you could choose the hotel either by price (which isn't really a question for them *lol*), the nearest landmark (which i think is good considering my family is quite lazy to walk! im sure they would prefer to be within walking distance to all the sites in dc), quality and value.

i suggested a couple of hotels and they are looking at it now. not only would they get competitve rates but their prices are discounted as well! im sure they'll be booking their trip with hotelreservations.com unless they find something cheaper somewhere, which i doubt! they'll be staying in washington for 2 days and would only need to book a hotel for one night. but hey, every dollar counts! the more they save, the more gifts they could buy for us, who are left back home!

not! i was tagged by julai and the result says im a snob! i admit, i do criticize some people especially with how they look and dress up. but i don't tell them in their faces. and im like this probably because im into fashion and design. anyhoo, before you guys say im just making excuses, im going to shut up and just let you try this yourself and see if we're in the same snobbish crowd. but seriously, im kind, inside and out =)

You Are a Total Snob

You're a total "it girl" - and you never let anyone around you forget it.
Sure, you probably have the style and looks to pull off the snobby attitude.
But no one thinks you're all that pretty on the inside.
Open your social circle up a little, and you might be surprised how fun less cool people can be.

Phone Card For Less

my mom, my sister and brother in law are having the vacation of their lives in the united states. they are currently staying with our relatives in new jersey. my mom has not been away from us (especially her grandson, adam) this long before so she misses us a lot, despite having a grand time abroad. so she makes sure she phones us regularly. as we all know, calling overseas could be expensive. fortunately, there are prepaid calling cards available for cheap international calls.

my mom said they are using the pingo calling cards. line is very clear, no need for pin numbers and most importantly, no hidden charges. she said one time, they used a different card because they were advertised as being able to connect calls the longest time. but that is if they don't put the phone down, talk for the whole duration of the card. but if you only use it for a few minutes, they will charge you a service fee each time you use it so in actuality, you get less minutes for the card value. anyways, they are quite happy with what they are using now.

i looked it up and was delighted to see that they have a special promo for blog readers. if YOU sign up with pingo, you will get about 5hours of free international calls. just write "ppp3" and is valid for 3$ off pingo.

my mom said she uses pingo's instant calling card when she phones her friend, who is based in california. also, my sister's going to recommend india calling cards to her colleagues in the uk. she might even get a recommendation fee of 5$ in free international calls.

though mom is quite far, we know what she's been up to. and it's like she's never really gone away from us.

my sister has been telling me to blog for ages. i wasn't particularly interested since our pc at home has been busted for ages, we have no decent internet connection, we're not allowed to surf online at work, i have no clue what blogging is and i have no time to really do it.

but when she told me the benefits of blogging, i tried to learn. you know naman how little the salary is here in the philippines so any extra will help. i got myself a laptop, still no decent internet connection but bearable and my ate helped me set up everything. so here i am.

and im so happy that i have been approved with one of the many paid blogging sites. one at a time muna and we'll see if i could squeeze it in with my busy sched. but today, i have earned my first $$ and i can't wait till the next one!

Christmas Gifts

i have been working for a year now. and ever since i had my first pay cheque, i make sure that i buy well-thought of gifts, especially during the christmas season. well, most of my siblings are abroad so i don't have to buy them gifts =) and i've only got a handful of godchildren to give gifts to. so buying a gift has always been easy for me.

but since i have been busy with all these extra travelling my job entails, i seem to have less and less time. my sister has introduced me to online shopping! not only that, she told me where i could get huge discounts and good deals from, at
couponchief.com. they offer promo codes and discounts on top of the already low low prices the various member shops offer.

what interests me are the
macy's coupon and the target coupons. my mom and my sister are in the us right now and i could order online and they could bring my shopping back home to me. ain't that a good deal? =)

long time, no post again. since my mom went to uk, i have been extra busy. i go to work on saturdays too and most weekends, we go to my parent's house and leave my little brat there. it's usually my mom who babysits my boy, since my dad's at work and i would definitely not leave him with my 17 year old brother who's so busy with his girlfriend! since there's no mom to leave the little brat with, who does our grocery shopping at times, i have to do extra things now. she'll be back in november but till then, i'll have my hands full. now i appreciate her even more!

anyhoo, my little boy perfected his oral and written exams. he's the number one in his class. although my sister's teasing adam because there's only 8 of them in the class. but who cares, he's still number one and still the most intelligent 3 year old i know *lol*. syempre, love your own, right? =) he got a handsome reward from my dad for being on top of his class. atta boy!

sorry no post in a long while! i have been to cebu for store visits. it's part of the job and now im starting to enjoy it, with all these travelling it entails. although, i still feel torn because i really don't wanna be away from my son that long (at least 3 days!).

i have also paid up our hotel accomodations for our palawan get-away this october. this time with my family. yey! we'll be flying to puerto princessa and basically, just taking the same holiday trip which my
sister took during their honeymoon. highly recommended nya kasi so we're trying it out. sayang, our youngest brother was supposed to come with us but since he's studying in mapua, quad sem, he won't be able to come since the only week he's off from school, enrolment time naman!

anyways, my son had his exams, oral and written, last week. and he got perfect scores in both! so so proud of him! his teachers say that he's advance for his age. i just hope he doesn't get bored with school and continues to excel in his studies.
well, that's it for now.
